Athens, my beloved city, is trying really hard to get over the pillaging and arson that has been taking place the past five days. I am in shock like everyone else in my country. I lived the beginning of the terrible events up close on Saturday night, but I never thought that it would continue like that. Loved ones of mine, who live in the city centre went through hell. I will be absent for a while from this blog to get my act together. I would like to thank all of you for being so considerate about the situation. I can’t even imagine what images of terror they showed on international channels. But I am sure they are not even close to what happened here.

Θα απέχω λίγο από αυτό το μπλογκ για να συνέλθω από τα γεγονότα. Τα έζησα από κοντά το Σάββατο, αλλά δεν φανταζόμουν ποτέ πως θα συνεχίζοντας με τέτοια λύσσα ακόμη και τέσσερις μέρες μετά. Δικοί μου άνθρωποι που ζουν στο κέντρο κινδύνεψαν πολύ. Πονάει η καρδιά μου να βλέπω την καταστροφή. Θα τα πούμε μάλλον από βδομάδα μπας και μπορέσουμε να μπούμε σε εορταστικό κλίμα. Πολύ αμφιβάλλω βέβαια…

Ioanna, us Greeks in the Diaspora are watching closely and with great concern. I do not condone what’s taking place but I understand it.
Hopefully a seismic shift (positively) will be occur in society, politics and the economy of Greece.

I cannot say that people don’t have the right to speak their minds and let their woes and concerns be heard but it is one thing to do so peacefully and another to do so destructively and without an inkling of concern for what this pillaging and arsen are doing to further harm Greek society. I hope and pray things begin to take a turn for the better and that Greece and it’s people, ALL it’s people, can rise above this.
